Criminal Injuries are something that we don't wish on anyone, but sadly the reality is that they do happen.

In the unfortunate circumstance where you are involved in a criminal injury, there are official bodies in place to help you get back on your feet, and in most cases you will able to claim compensation for either mental or physical injuries.

The Government run Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority or CICA (http://www.cica.gov.uk/) is available to help you claim anything from £1000 to £500,000 in compensation if you are the victim of a criminal injury. The service is free to use and they will help you with your claim.

Many private solicitors are also at hand if you wish to pursue a case. Many of these will offer a no-win-no-fee contract, and greatly help you in winning your case by offering expert advice and guidance.

What you will usually need

If you are serious about getting compensation for the physical and mental damages caused to you after a criminal injury then make sure you report the incident to the police as soon as possible and seek medical attention for your injuries.

The accident can be no more than 2 years before you put in a claim, and if you contributed to the incident in any way then your case is not valid and personal injury solicitors, and the CICA will probably not back you.
